From American Pregnancy Association:
HCG=is made by cells in the placenta which nourishes the egg after fertilization & attaches to the uterine wall. In general hcg levels will double every 72hrs.
Key things to remember:
In 85% of pregnancies the level will double every 48-72 hrs.

**Caution must be used in making too much of hcg numbers. A normal pregnancy may have low hcg numbers & result in a perfectly healthy baby!!!!**

The results of an ultrasound @ 5-6 weeks gestation are much more accurate than using hcg numbers.
